OUR "CHILDREN"
All of our children are of the four legged variety. We
love them dearly and have been told that we treat them as if they were real
children.
If you have visited Lora's horse page, you have already met
Dream. He has been with us the longest and
Lora jokingly calls him her "illegitimate child" since she has had Dream since
before we were married. We have now added a second equine child to our family.
Cause Im Kendall joined our family in February
2000.
Next (after Dream) came Leo and Shadow. Leo was acquired
through an animal shelter. We had lost our first cat, Ace, and after looking
several months had come to the conclusion he would never be found. We adopted
Leo on one of our many visits to the shelter hoping to find Ace.
Leo was a lovable little kitten who looked just like a
lion, so that's where he got his name. He grew up a bit, and pretty much
ignored us unless he was out of food :-) Unfortunately, Leo died last year
about Easter time. He had grown rather large and the vet wanted to put him on a
diet. He lost a lot of weight too fast, and we think his heart couldn't handle
it.
Shadow was given to us by a friend in Pennsylvania. Her
barn cats had many kittens and Lora fell in love with the little grey one.
Shadow was so small when he came to live with us, Lora would carry him around
in her robe pocket to keep from stepping on him in the mornings while getting
ready for work. Shadow is still a little pest, but we love him!
Last, but most certainly not least is Dee Dee. She is an
Australian Shepherd. Sometimes we think Dee Dee is a little person. She is so
smart. When we try to teach her a new trick, she seems to learn it in warp
speed! She has a large basket of tricks and she'll show them off almost
anywhere (for treats, of course). Dee Dee loves to fetch things. At home, her
favorite fetch toy is her Frisbee. When we are at the farm, her favorite toy
was an old leather basketball that has a raggedy cover. She can pick it up and
carry it by the cover, and the first thing she did at the barn is search until
she finds the basketball. You'd see her coming with the ball dangling from her
mouth, and she'll lay it at your feet. Then a game of kick and fetch was sure
to follow! But that ball is long gone now, and now she plays with a dog-sized
horse ball with a handle on the top.
Dee Dee loves to go everywhere with us. She has friends
all over the state of Texas, the US and even the World. How's that? Dee Dee
goes to every horse show with us. We go to at least one show a month, therefore
the friends from Texas and Oklahoma. When we go to the Appaloosa National and
World shows, Dee Dee gets to see her friends from the rest of the US and her
International friends from Canada and even Germany! Its funny, usually people
are looking for Dee Dee before they even say "Hello" to us! |
